Surrey Court Motel Events and Local Attractions

Invercargill is a busy, vibrant rural city serving the rich farmland of Southland. Wide Streets and graceful old buildings scattered through the central city are just Part of the charm.  Queens Park Gardens and  the Southland Museum next door are both well worth much more than a fleeting visit. Bill Richardson’s Transport Museum is home to probably one of the worlds most comprehensive collections of transport memorabilia.and it has been joined by the Classic Motorcycle Mecca. Invercargill was home to Burt Monroe, of “The Worlds Fastest Indian” fame. His amazing Indian Motor Cycle and many other Vintage and Classic Motorcycles can be found … not in a museum as one might expect … but in E.Hayes & Sons Hardware Shop. This like Bill Richardson’s Collections a testament to local business owners foresight and community support.

Sports and Recreation

Like most of New Zealander,  Invercargill is home to a community well immersed in their love of sports at all levels. There are sports grounds everywhere and your hosts will be happy to help direct you to a ground to enjoy whatever takes your interest. This will generally be weekends, although our long summer evenings can be busy as well.

Our Trout rivers are world class, and most within easy driving range in Invercargill. Tramping (Hiking) trails are many, varied, and cater for all levels of fitness, experience and duration. Cycling Trails are growing in number, and there are excellent surf breaks to be found.

 Rural Southland

Driving through Southland  should not be seen as “just on your way towards your next destination”    Your trip will show you some of the most diversely productive agricultural land in New Zealand. You’ll see herds of deer, farmed for both meat and velvet, dairy farms and of course sheep everywhere. These farmed for wool, meat, and now a growing number of dairy sheep flocks.
